Composition 

• Seven members live in town and are appointed by the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners.
• Two members live in the town's extraterritorial jurisdiction and are appointed by the Orange County Board of Commissioners.

The extraterritorial jurisdiction is an area outside town limits where the town may enforce its zoning and subdivision regulations. See the Services for Your Property page for more information.

Terms

Members serve up to two consecutive three-year terms. One calendar year must pass before a member may be reappointed after serving two complete terms and any partial term.

The Planning Board holds regular meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

The regular meetings in February, May, August, and November also serve as quarterly joint public hearings with the Town Board of Commissioners. Joint public hearings begin at 7 p.m.
